Super Fragrances!

It is no longer enough for a perfume just to smell pretty. The newest and most intriguing fragrances are super fragrances. Lofty claims abound. Some of these fragrances are promising just about everything under the sun, only just stopping short of promising that you will win the lottery, marry a prince, and live happily ever after.
The above image is the Lolita Lempicka L de Lempicka. This is perhaps one of the prettiest perfume bottles I have ever come across. It is available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $84. The key ingredient is from the Coast and is called Gomphrena flower. Lempicka says the following to describe the scent, "This fragrance exudes the beauty of the ocean coupled with the myth of the mermaid. A fresh oriental elixir overwhelming the senses and embracing the skin with the salty kiss of the Everlasting Flower." So, maybe if you wear it you won't win the lottery, but you will have all the beauty of the ocean along with the desirability of a mermaid.

The Body Shop Rougeberry Eau de Toilette is a limited edition fragrance that is described as being zingy and fruity, with a hint of sweet spice. Proceeds from the sale of every bottle go to MTV's Staying Alive Foundation, and helps towards raising awareness and stopping the spread of HIV among young people. This super fragrance is available at the Body Shop for only $16. What's that? Only $16 dollars to stop the spread of HIV? I would say that is money well spent.

Mintel's November 2006 Women's Fragrances report predicted "more focus on the science of fragrance" and functional fragrances in the future. Here is an excerpt from the report -
"In 2007, the company Clean Brands will launch the Scentology line of fragrances. These are functional fragrances in that the products in the line promise to fight cravings, make the user alert and/or make the user experience an elevated mood. Dr. Rachel Herz, an olfactory scientist, is behind this line of time-released lip glosses and fragrances which are said to 'enhance the mind, improve mood and increase willpower.' This collection may be just the start of products released based on the science of fragrance. Other functional products are sure to follow, especially if/when research draws definitive links between brain function and olfactory experiences. "
The Scentology scents are now available exclusively at Target. The fragrances to choose from are Bliss Booster, Crave Control, and Endurance Enhancer. If a fragrance can make me happy, help me with chocolate cravings, and assist me in running a marathon then I would say it is definitely worth trying. Is this a genie in a bottle? Not quite, but it could make some of your wishes come true. That is if you wish for increased send of well-being, elevated mood, increased self-confidence, or increased feeling of relaxation. This is apparently made possible through the combination of neuropeptides with pheromones. Oh, did I mention that they say it will also increase attractiveness to the opposite sex? N.V. Perricone M.D. Synergy Anti-Aging Aromatic is an all-natural product that even comes with a travel vial. Dying to try? It can be purchased at Sephora for $250.
Lavanila Laboratories has created a new fragrance that not only adds scent to the skin but also contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to care for the skin, for a fragrance that's actually 'good for you'. Vanilla Grapefruit is formulated with 30 vitamins and minerals and 19 amino acids, as well as super antioxidants such as goji berry for a fragrance that's pure, clean and nurturing. It is also available in Pure Vanilla and Vanilla Blossom for $56 at Sephora.

I'm going to smell this when I go into sephora, cause I really like the smell of grapefruit. It's uplifting to me.
