Just Soak and Plant

Cosmetic packaging is becoming more eco-friendly. What could be better than looking beautiful? Looking and feeling beautiful and then being rewarded with beautiful flowers! Simply soak and plant because the boxes are embedded with wildflower seeds.

Cargo PlantLove Botanical Lipstick is one of my favorite new products. Evangeline Lily, Lindsay Lohan, Maria Menouos, Mariska Hargitay, and Sarah Chalke each helped design and inspire their own shades in the range. Also, the lipstick tube is made out of corn, so it is 100% biodegradable. If that isn't enough ,you can soak the box and then plant it because the seeds are embedded in the packaging. Equally important, they donate $2 from every Plantlove lipstick sold to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I have heard that the pink lipstick that Lindsay Lohan designed is selling extremely well. Interestingly enough, she was actually inspired by the color of a pink post-it.

Plantlove isn't the only cosmetic product with packaging embedded with flower seeds. Pangea Organics Facial Mask Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry contains organic ingredients with rich antioxidant properties for anti-aging. The box can be planted after use and contains Genovese "Italian" Sweet Basil seeds. The directions state, "Soak the box for 1 minute and plant it about 1" deep in soil. Up should spring medicinal herbs found in our products. Enjoy." Oh, and it should be mentioned that a portion of the profits from the sale is donated to the Pangea Institute that teaches and researches sustainability.

I love the idea of ethical consumerism. Buying products that donate portions of the proceeds to deserving charitable organizations that try to make our planet and our communities a better healthier place for all of us is something I wish we would all participate in. I also tend to think that products with ridiculous amounts of packaging and plastic is not only annoying to get into, it's simply a waste. A box that is made from 100% post-consumer news-print that is embedded with flowers is a gorgeous way for manufacturers to present their product and their company. Buying a product such as that is a great way for a woman to feel good about herself and feel good about parting with her hard earned cash. It's a win for everyone involved!
What do you think about this new type of packaging? Does it make a difference to you? Have you tried any products like these? As a consumer, are you more likely to purchase the products that donate the proceeds to reputable charities than products that do not? Please share your thoughts in the comment section.
